Introduction: Interactive Language Learning

When technology-assisted tools are combined with an interactive language learning approach in a language learning process, the adult English language learners will be enriched in not only the language development but also in cognitive development as learners will develop language proficiency by incorporating information from subject area and through technology-assisted tools as affordance and scaffolding. They will have the opportunities for ongoing input, interaction, attention, feedback, output, and negotiation of meaning.

This Interactive Language Learning webpage employs information on how administrators can prepare educators to integrate technology in the adult ESL classroom, the usability of Duolingo as a technological tool to assist English learners learn a language, learning Indonesian as a foreign language as well as teaching reading through phonological awareness to adult ESL with limited literacy.

Technology Integration in the ESL Classroom

Educators must be digital literate as the use of technology in education in the 21st century is ubiquitous. Thus, administrators have the responsibility to properly train adult ESL  educators.

Duolingo Usability

Duolingo is a language learning application that is available for both IOS and Android systems. It offers fun and engaging language learning courses such as Spanish, French, English, etc.

Learning Indonesian Language

Indonesian is the national language in Indonesia. Learning the language through a video with authentic materials could be engaging and informative.

Teaching Reading through Phonological Awareness

These video tutorials consist of information on the importance of teaching phonics strategies to adult English learners, with focus on phonological and phonemic awareness as well as other resources that can be used to teach a pre-literacy class.

One of technological tools that educators can use to engage adult ESL learners is through the use of @wordle. Prompt the students to use adjectives to describe themselves. Here is my wordle creation (i.e., adjectives to describe myself).
